Foods, Sightseeing, and Experience in Tsukuba, JAPAN
While I drive to our office, I was able to see that farmers harvested lawn (Shiba or Shibafu in Japanese) many times in the spring as if they peeled land off. They piled up the lawn harvested after they cut the lawn in square. A large track was already parked near the cultivated land to deliver them. The large green carpet was very nice and refreshed me. The Lawn sparkling with morning dew is definitely beautiful.
Tsukuba is one of large lawn production areas because it has large flat land that is well drained. The condition is best to cultivate the lawn. The major area is Oho, Toyosato, and the southeast of Tsukuba. The lawn is not major product in different prefectures where I used to live so I had not seen harvests of the lawn when I moved to Tsukuba. Farmers can harvest the lawn twice a year therefore I can see similar views of harvesting lawn in the spring and the autumn.
Golf boom had enhanced the lawn production in Tsukuba because golf courses need a lot of lawn. And a policy of reducing the amount of land devoted to rice cultivation also let farmers decide to make lawn instead of rice.
I can see beautiful green lawn at the foot of Tsukuba mountain under the blue sky. The contrast of the colors is really nice. The view would not be available in other cities so it would be priceless. Do you like to lay yourself on the lawn?
